The Environmental Action Club and several other organizations and Clubs of Monroe Township High School come together on October 30th, annually to celebrate Halloween. The children wear their beautiful costumes and bring along their tired parents into a High School turned Halloween Mansion, decorated with colorful costumes and posters that fill each room. This year was especially unique, as the Environmental Action Club reintroduced its Bag person to educate children on the number of plastic bags an average person wastes each day. The costume carries 600 plastic bags as volunteers, like Dylan Raval struggle to carry the weight of New Jersey’s plastic waste on his shoulders. Along with the “scary” Halloween Bag Monster, Environmental Action Club sets up multiple games for the children to learn how to have fun, while recycling. In the Trash Toss game children were eager to verse their friends on an all out brawl to see who can throw their piece of paper trash farthest into the recycling bin. Environmental Action Club also had a speed induced game that taught an important life skill called organization. This skill was required in the game called Candy Rush, in which children tried to organize their candy the fastest by separating them into different baskets.

9 year old Kritika Bhatia had a blast at the Trash Toss game where she and her friends played to get prizes and learn about the importance of recycling. Kritika excitedly recalled “I had so much fun trying to throw the paper trash into the recycling bin and getting prizes!”

The kids not only got to play entertaining games that taught them about life and the importance of the environment, but they also got the chance to receive plenty of candy as well as giving the parents a chance to sneak a few for themselves too.
