On Saturday September 28th, Monroe Township held its 10th annual Green Fair at the high school. As the Environmental Action Club, EAC always plays an important role in the day’s events and volunteering.
The club had a row of tables with various activities and demonstrations set up in the hallway leading to the PAC. Several tables included annual traditions, including the pasta butterfly life cycle for younger children. Young environmentalists could also try their hand at a ring toss, for which prizes such as stickers were given out.
The club also performed a scientific demonstration involving the influence of erosion on different soil types. The demonstration featured two plants grown in water bottles containing different blends of soil, and studied the impact of water erosion on soil quality.
Another popular table was a handmade jewelry sale, the funds of which went towards the EAC senior scholarships. The table was very popular, and by the end of the day, all of the pieces had sold out.
The EAC section of the fair saw heavy traffic throughout the day by many interested event goers. Attendees had much to say about the activities.
Sophomore Kenneth Sicat commented on the erosion demonstration, saying, “It was striking to see how different the effects of erosion can be depending on soil type. I liked how the club had the plants right on the table, so we could see the immediate results.”
The 2019 Green Fair was a successful and fulfilling day for all club members and event attendees, and the club is looking forward to continuing its participation at the 2020 event.
